Why I want to be a P.E teacher

For me, physical activity is a huge factor in my every day life. I love to play all types of different sports and try anything new. For me physical activity shoudnt be seen as a chore or something to hate. It should be enjoyed by everyone and for me, being a PE teacher makes me want to make PE and enjoyable subject. At home in Ireland PE is not a graded subject which is ridiculous. There are many people who ruin that class for others because they don't feel like participating. If the education system were to make it a graded subject there would be a lot more participation and less tension between students during that time period as they will all be involved. I want to be a PE teacher so I can help students obtain a basic and general knowlegde of health and fitness that they can use throughout their life. I also want to make it fun and enjoyable for the students that dont feel like it is one of their main strengths.

  1. I totally could just copy and paste because I just wrote a post on someone else's blog about this. I also want to show people that physical activity is fun. There were a lot of kids in my class who would load up on other electives so they didn't have to take phys. ed. They thought that it was pointless and not important to their lives. Usually these students were the uncoordinated or nonathletic students. When I become a phys. ed. teacher I want to show these types of students that it is fun and also that it is something they can participate in without getting embarrassed.

  2. I also agree that P.E. should be a graded subject. Not only will it make students accountable, it also provides data to show administrators and parents that standards and school objectives are being met. It also will hold the teacher more accountable. Instead of throwing a ball to kids and telling them to play, the teacher will now have to create criteria for instruction and testing. Lastly, making P.E. a graded subject sends the message to students and parents that physical activity is just as important as the other traditional academic courses.
